Kicking off a fundraiser successfully requires organizations to foster involvement from the people in the local community. While organizations can start simple with just a box or two in a lobby or school, this only gets organizations so far. This video teaches organizations to get more people involved. With more local involvement, the money organizations can raise will increase and the city will be safer from e-waste pollution.
Most people don’t think about their city dump. In fact, most people don’t even think about what happens to their trash after it’s picked up at the curb. The problem is, Americans creat tons of waste every year, and a small percentage of that waste is extremely toxic. Electronic products, such as gaming consoles, cellphones, laptops, inkjet and toner printer cartridges, and other electronic gadgets make up just 2% of all waste, yet those items are responsible for 70% of the toxic chemicals in our dumps.
As individuals learn about the dangers of e-waste, most want to get involved in recycling efforts. Since most cities aren’t set up for e-waste recycling, many people aren’t sure what to do with their old gadgets. That means that a lot of e-waste is still ending up in local city trash dumps. However, with a few great tips, it’s possible to educate people about responsible e-waste disposal.
It’s fairly simple to get people to participate. Unlike selling cookies or candy, which most people don’t really need, e-waste recycling sells itself. Plus, no one actually has to pay to participate. All they have to do is collect old junk and box it up.
We have a few great tips organizations can use to get our e-waste recycling program started. First, work on placing collection boxes out to businesses all over town. Second, work on getting businesses excited about getting their ink and toner cartridges from your organization’s Planet Green Cartridges website. After an organization starts this fundraiser, businesses in the local area often do most of the fundraising for them.
It takes action to get a fundraiser started, but we offer our EnviroPartners helpful information on making the fundraiser successful. With our helpful tips, it’s easy to get the ball rolling. After using our ideas, most organizations come up with their own great ideas on their own. After all, organizations know their families, friends and community best, so who better to inspire folks about recycling their e-waste?
